IELTS Speaking Practice Scored on Official Criteria

Speaking is the IELTS skill most students feel least prepared for. You can't practice it alone — until now. Have a real voice conversation with an examiner that listens, responds, asks follow-ups, and scores every response on the four official criteria.

No credit card. Works on any device with a microphone.

All Three Parts of the Speaking Test

The same format, timing, and question types you'll face on test day. Practice each part individually or run the full test.

💬

Part 1 — Introduction

Familiar topic questions about home, work, studies, and interests. Scored on fluency and vocabulary range. The opening 4–5 minutes that set your confidence for the rest of the test.

🎤

Part 2 — Long Turn

Cue card topic with preparation time. Speak for 1–2 minutes. Scored on organization, coherence, and ability to speak at length — the part that separates Band 6 from Band 7.

🧠

Part 3 — Discussion

Abstract questions related to your Part 2 topic. This is where higher-level vocabulary, complex grammar, and nuanced opinions earn the marks. The examiner pushes you to demonstrate your full range.

Scored on the Same Four Criteria Examiners Use

Every response gets a breakdown across all four criteria — weighted equally, just like on test day.

Fluency & Coherence

Can you speak smoothly without long pauses? Do your ideas connect logically? Scored on hesitation frequency, discourse markers, and overall flow.

Lexical Resource

How varied and precise is your vocabulary? Scored on topic-specific vocabulary, collocations, idiomatic language, and ability to paraphrase.

Grammatical Range & Accuracy

Do you use a mix of simple and complex structures? Scored on sentence variety, tense control, and error frequency.

Pronunciation

Can you be clearly understood? Scored on word stress, intonation patterns, connected speech, and clarity.

Common Questions

Is this as useful as practicing with a real person?
For test preparation, it's more useful. A conversation partner can practice with you, but they can't score you on the four IELTS criteria in real time. The Speaking Lab does both — practice and scoring in one.
Do I need a special microphone?
No. The built-in microphone on your phone, laptop, or tablet works. A quiet environment helps, but it's not required.
How often should I practice speaking?
15–20 minutes, 3–4 times per week leads to noticeable improvement within 2–3 weeks. The system tracks your progress and shows which criteria are improving and which need more attention.
Can this help me go from Band 6 to Band 7?
That's exactly the gap this is designed to close. Band 7 requires consistent fluency, varied vocabulary, and complex grammar. The Speaking Lab shows you exactly where you're falling short on each criterion so you know what to work on.
